I suggest that you do what Nightime said have multiple versions on your computer. Then there's 3.95, which is a mixture of the two (and the one that I use). Heck, you can have them BOTH that way, if that's your prerogative.

What I suggest doing, if I were you, is install 4.0 to a different folder, and use the "AdditionalSongFolders=." command line in Stepmania.ini to tie it to your other Songs folder from SM 3.9 and test drive it a few times to see if you like it more.
